The concept of Operation Round Up is rather simple. Each month when electric bills of participating members are prepared, statements are rounded up to the nearest whole dollar. The difference between the billing and the actual cost of consumed electricity for the month is placed into a fund.

For example, if your electric bill was $100.35, you would pay $101.00 with $0.65 going to Operation Round Up. The maximum any member can contribute in a year is $11.88 ($0.99 times 12 months). If you do not wish to participate in Operation Round Up, you can fill out an Operation Round Up Opt Out Form and easily be removed from the program!

Funds are disbursed for charitable and educational purposes, helping support local schools, nonprofit organizations, and individuals in need. Funding is also available for emergency situations, such as house fires, floods, and other unforeseen circumstances that create an immediate need for assistance.

Your community, your school, and your nonprofit organizations may be eligible to receive these funds. That's one of the great things about Operation Round Up: the money stays local! Together, we can make a difference.

If you decide that you do not wish to participate in this program that will benefit your community, please contact the office via email (oahe@oaheelectric.com), phone (605.962.6243) or regular mail (PO Box 216, Blunt SD 57522) and inform them that you would like to opt-out of the program.

If you are interested in receiving an application for funding, either for an individual or an organization, please use the same contact information listed above, and one will be provided for you. Also, you can click on the links below and download either application. All applications are due by April 30, 2026. The board of trustees will meet after this date, and decide how to disburse the funds.

Individuals must live in Oahe Electric's service territory, which includes Hughes and Sully counties. Applications must include specific dollar amounts and clearly state the needs for which funding is requested. Applicants may be approved for a maximum of $2,500 and may receive only one grant within any 24-month period.

Organizations must conduct business within Oahe Electric's service territory. All other guidelines are the same as those for individual applications, except the maximum potential funding is $5,000.

When grants are awarded, recipients may be asked to share that they received funds from the Operation Round Up program.
