Members of Oahe Electric Cooperative have the opportunity to see the story behind the switch during a two-day tour to cooperatively owned energy production facilities.

The Coteau Properties Freedom Coal Mine, Antelope Valley Station and Dakota Gasification Company will be toured during the two-day trip. These three major sites play a huge role in Basin Electric Power Cooperative's daily operations. Basin Electric is on of Oahe's primary power suppliers. The tour of these Beulah, N.D., facilities provides valuable lessons for understanding why coal is so important to our energy sector. The Coteau Mine is an active coal producer guaranteed to amaze all viewers. Antelope Valley Station is a lignite coal energy generation station located adjacent to Dakota Gasification Company which owns and operates the Great Plains Synfuels Plant. The Synfuels Plant is the only commercial scale coal gasification plant in the U.S. that manufactures natural gas.

Also included in the tour is the SRS Dispatch Center in Bismarck, N.D. The SRS Dispatch Center is the organization that coordinates outages after normal business hours. These are the people you talk to when your power goes out at night!
